Sanity Of Impiety: In death we unite
08/03/11 || Love Lagerkvist
Like your uninspired Gothenburg melodeath with an extra bit of HM2 crunch? No? Well fuck you, because that’s what’s on the menu today, provided courtesy of Swedish Sanity Of Impiety’s “In death we unite” demo. Before we start it should also be noted that bassist Jörgen Persson apparently used to be a nice little forumer before he got a temporary amnesia and deleted GD from his bookmarks because he couldn’t handle the unaltered awesome. Something along those lines anyway.
Let’s start off with the positives, should we? To Sanity Of Impiety’s credit, this 21-minute release is actually surprisingly varied. Starter and title track “In death we unite” is the embodiment of early Gothenburgian melodeath, “When feeding the divine” and “Sane in an insane world” are about as close to Hypocrisy worship as you can come while “The sinister lullaby” is just that – a lingering little beast with a surprising amount of equally surprising clean vocals. Instrumentation and production are about what you could expect from this kind of release. Only problem, it’s just not good enough.
These five tunes are certainly competent and enjoyable to an extent, but lacks that extra bit of demonic power that elevates music to something that you’ll actually remember. But then again this is just a demo, so let’s hope they get at least a lick of that legendary satanic juice.
